Face to face communication is worse

Has any one had an experience when face to face communication is worse than written communication. The speaker/presenter is unable to control their facial expression or body language, which then caused more confusion than clarification. An example would be a person telling you yes but shaking his/her head no or folding their arms when they are trying to listen to a question from the audience.

Have any of you had this type of experience? Explain your response.
