What has been your organizational experience when confronted with today's external environment and/or interorganizational relationships? In what way could Morgan's discussion on organizations as brains and/or organizations as cultures be of help?

The chapters from Morgan introduce us to two new organizational metaphors: organizations as brains and organizations as cultures. The brain metaphor opens up a discussion on the requirements for a learning organization. Key management principles are challenged; paradox becomes an everyday reality at this point. One of the more challenging forces for some managers to grapple with will be that "hierarchy, design, and strategic development must be approached and understood as self-organizing, emergent phenomena". A "let go" attitude will be challenging as well since the brain metaphor "requires both a 'power shift' and a 'mind shift'".
