Explore all of these themes in depth for the U.S.-Mexico border, covering the full geography and the full history up to the present discussed in the week 1 readings. Is a transnational, shared, tolerant border culture emerging at the U.S.-Mexico border, in the big picture, or do lines of division and polarization across the boundary and within the U.S. continue to dominate the border region? 4. Analyze material (case examples and interview data) from Richardson, by using concepts from Martínez (his model of borders from alienated to integrated; the main themes of conflict, accommodation, and interaction; and his model of borderland orientations: "national" and "transnational"). You should use several different sets of concepts but you do not need to cover every single concept.
