This class explores American political institutions. Successful completion of this class will provide students with research skills and new knowledge of the American political system. Students should also be able to analyze and evaluate public policy and clearly articulate multiple perspectives on policies. Specifically, POS 394 is intended to:

1. Develop research skills for studying American political institutions;

2. Enable students to identify the roles of political institutions;

3. Expand students' understanding of the development and current status of major political institutions;

4. Evaluate the impact of political institutions on democratic values;

5. Explore the interactions among political institutions;

6. Research and critique multiple perspectives of public policy based on ideological differences; and
