Case study:

Caden and Marlow have been married for 17 years. Their 15-year-old son Jonathan has just announced to them that he is "Trans." They ask him, "Do you mean gay?" He shakes his head no and asserts he is Trans and wants to explore transitioning to become a woman. The couple is having difficulty accepting this new reality. Caden and Marlow are constantly fighting because Caden is concerned for Jonathan's safety and feels that he really does not understand what this trans means. He feels that Jonathan is doing this for attention. Caden is becoming physical with Jonathan so that he can "man up." Marlow is concerned that she will lose her son if she does not allow him to pursue this avenue. She is also worried for his safety and how his friends will view him.
