Assignment:
I need help starting my research paper. I plan to talk about Exercise and Well-Being, focusing on Psychological Benefits of Exercise, Cognitive Function and Exercise, Social Connections Through Exercise, Physical Health and Longevity, Barriers to Regular Exercise
INSTRUCTIONS (to have a better understanding)
1. First, select a theme that is important to the nature of being human. Some ideas include, but are not limited to, earth stewardship, social media, equity, home, elder care, child discipline, sports, pets, courtship, sharing meals, evening entertainment, child birthing, funeral practices, religious rituals, music used in rituals, vacations, sacrifice, work ethics, etc.
2. Narrow down your topic as the above examples are far too broad to be a do-able paper that is not too general. For example, select female beauty standards in fashion instead of just beauty, or funeral practices instead of just death.
3. Choose ONE of the following options to show how your theme manifests itself and changes across time or place. Remember you are looking at how your theme is important to the nature of being human.
Option 1-Research and present your topic in three different contemporary (since 1950) cultures. For example, research female beauty standards in fashion in modern Iran, China, and Brazil. (This option demonstrates the theme over place.)
Option 2-Research and present your topic in three different historical cultures. For example, explore marriage practices in England, India, and Japan in the 1300s. (This option demonstrates the theme over place in a historical era.)
Option 3-Research and present your topic in one region in three separate times. For example, investigate funeral practices in Mexico during the Aztec period, the eighteenth century Colonial period, and since 1950. (This option demonstrates the theme over time.)
Do NOT mix and match time and place as that creates fallacious comparisons and demonstrates little.
4. Research your topic using credible, reliable, peer-reviewed, scholarly sources. Wikipedia.org, Ask.com, Answers.com, and random websites are not credible and/or reliable. Use books, journals, newspapers, etc. (including online versions) for your research. Use the Locke Library! Use a variety of sources from a variety of disciplines to show the interdisciplinary nature of your topic. Evaluate your researched information for currency, relevancy, and reliability. Your paper should have at least 5 credible sources from 3 different disciplines e.g., history, philosophy, art, psychology, sociology, biology, chemistry.
5. If you are writing a paper, it should be 6 pages in length, not including the works cited. If you are including pictures or other graphics, you paper should be 1500 words, not including the works cited.
6. If you are providing a presentation, it should be 10-12 minutes in length.
7. Use MLA, APA, Chicago/Turabian, or CSE style for citing sources. Make use of your ENG 111 handbook or visit Owl at Purdue if you need help citing sources.
8. Follow the specifications and format requirements below.
