Explain what is the oxidation state of copper

The minerals chalcocite (Cu2S) and malachite (Cu2CO3(OH)2) are two primary sources of copper. What is the oxidation state of copper in each of these minerals? This is the question, I know the answers are 1+ and 2+ (respectively). I understand the first part, but I do not understand why the oxidation state for copper in malachite is 2+. Please explain
