Another of the reaction by-product is biphenyl. Although you do not use chromatography in the workup for this experiment, you certainly could. Explain in general terms how you could use column chromatography to separate the by-products from benzoic acid. You don't have to specify exact solvents, etc. just discuss the relative polarities, what elutes from the column when etc. Why do you think you use extraction techniques instead of chromatography?
