Estimate the theoretical carbonaceous and nitrogenous oxygen demand of a waste containing 50 mg/L lysine, C6H14N2O2. Assume the nitrogen is liberated as ammonia in the first oxidation step converting organic carbon to CO2. Can I calculate this as just theoretical oxygen demand, or is there a way to separate it into carbonaceous and nitrogenous oxygen demand?
