Case study scenario:

Ryan, an employee in the medical department, regularly tells off-color jokes, is rude to coworkers, nicknames them derogatory names behind their backs and uses sexual and racial slurs. He has made some of these comments in front of his supervisor, Jason.

His coworkers are upset by the conduct but feel that since Jason hasn’t done anything about it, they just have to put up with it. Zane is a new employee and approaches Jason to complain. Jason tells Zane that Ryan is a great worker and “doesn’t mean anything” by the comments. “That’s just Ryan.”

-Explain the type of discrimination and harassment, include both that took place in the case study scenario. What were the key indicators that this behavior was a violation of workplace policy?
