In the lower troposphere, ozone is one of the components of photochemical smog. It is generated in air when nitrogen dioxide, formed by the oxidation of nitrogen monoxide from car exhaust, reacts by the following mechanism.
(1) NO2(g) NO(g) + O(g)
(2) O(g) + O2(g) O3(g)
Assuming the rate of formation of atomic oxygen in step 1 equals the rate of its consumption in step 2, use the data below to calculate the following quantities.
k1 = 8.0 10-3 s-1; [NO2] = 4.0 10-9 M
k2 = 1.0 106 L/mol·s; [O2] = 1.0 10-2 M
(a) the concentration of atomic oxygen [O] ___M
(b) the rate of ozone formation
Determine the rate constant for each of the following first-order reactions. In each case, write the rate law for the rate of loss of A. a) 2 A B + C
accidentally mixed. A 4.50-g sample is burned, and 2.70 g of CO2(g) is produced. What was the mass percentage of the table salt in the mixture?
use curved arrows to show the flow of electrons in each step, and note any relevant charges or lone pairs of electrons.
Explain the general idea of the LCAO-MO method.
An industrial wastewater contains 2000 mg/L of total Ammonia as N, 490 mg/L of total Ni and has no inorganic carbon. The PH = 2.8. Using the diagram calculate to what pH the waste must be adjusted to so that the total Ni concentration is 1 mg/L.
Find out the Celsius temperature of 2.49 mol of gas contained in a 1.00 L vessel at 1.8 atm pressure.
How many moles of carbon, hydrogen, & oxygen are present in a 100g sample of ascorbic acid? Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) contains 40.92% carbon, 4.58% hydrogen, and 54.50% oxygen by mass. Assume a 100 g sample of ascorbic acid.
A titration experiment is set up to use .235M bleach (NaOCl) to analyze CrO2^-. If 50mL of the CrO2^-(aq) solution required 28.62mL of bleach to react to completion, what would you calculate as the molarity of the CrO2- solution
Phosphorus pentachloride decomposes to phosphorus trichloride at high temperatures according to the reaction:
When one mole of hydrogen iodide(HI) is stored in a 1-liter container at 444 oC, 22 % of HI wil be dissociated at equilibirum. Calculate the equilibrium constant of the reversible reaction of hydrogen iodide (HI)at 444 oC.
There are 0.30 mol SrCl2 in every liter of solution. Calculate the number of moles of SrCl2 that were added. What is the limiting reactant?
