Trans-fats are generally accepted as bad for humans but given that the beta-oxidation mechanism will form an alpha-beta double bond anyway why is this? In other words, couldn't the oxidation of a trans-fat just skip the dehydrogenase reaction step and be catabolized the same as a saturated fatty acid?
