Question: Explain which interpretation of probability (relative frequency or personal) applies to each of these statements and how you think the probability was determined.

a. According to Krantz (1992, p. 161), the probability that a randomly selected American will be injured by lightning in a given year is 1/685,000.

b. According to my neighbor, the probability that the tomato plants she planted last month will actually survive to produce fruit is only 1/2.

c. According to the nursery where my neighbor purchased her tomato plants, if a plant is properly cared for, the probability that it will produce tomatoes is .99.

d. The probability that a husband will outlive his wife (for U.S. couples) is 3/10 (Krantz, 1992, p. 163).
