Overview

You will apply crisis management response procedures in a crisis situation. Specifically, you will focus on the importance of establishing a command post, public perimeter, staging area, and triage area when managing a crisis situation.

For this practice activity, you will choose a crisis situation. You may choose any situation you would like other than an active shooter situation. First, describe the crisis situation and explain the importance of establishing the various areas of incident command. Then, consider where and why each area should be established for the situation chosen. Although you may be familiar with each area from your module resources, here is a brief description of each to consider when choosing the crisis situation:

Command post: centralized area to track all moving parts/personnel in the incident response

Public perimeter: boundary to keep the incident area free from the public wandering around and disturbing responders, maintains evidence/scene, etc.

Staging area: an area for the media to set up; allows an organization's or a security company's public information officer (PIO), or the incident commander, to keep in front of the media, keep the media from wandering and from making false connections/correlations; aids in controlling the story

Triage area: an area to deal with human injuries and loss of life, etc., away from the public
