There has been considerable scientific interest in using the fetus for transplants. Think about this issue using the following hypothetical situations: Suppose an elderly patient is suffering from the degenerative progression of Parkinson's disease. There is hope that the ravages of the disease may be stopped or reversed by transplanting neural tissue from the human fetus. Experimentation done with monkeys has shown that symptoms similar to Parkinson's can be controlled by transplanting tissue into the brain of an afflicted adult animal. Let's review the case study below:

A neurosurgeon at a large teaching facility wishes to transplant tissues from an aborted fetus into the brain of an elderly statesman (Politician). The wife of the statesman wishes to become pregnant by having embryos the couple previously had frozen implanted in her uterus. Then she plans to abort the fetus to allow for the best tissue match. This technique has never been performed in a human before.
