Indifference Curve, Budget Line & Optimal Utility
A household's utility over two consumption goods x and y is U= U(x,y) = xy.
1. Describe the household's indifference curve for U = 1 for values of x and y less than 3 (ie. the curve containing all combinations of x and y such that U(x,y)=1.
Now assume that the household's wealth is w=4 and that the prices of the goods are px = 2 and py = 2.2. How many units of x can the household consume at most if it does not consume any y?3. Describe the household's budget line and its relationship to the indifference curve.4. What is the household's optimal consumption bundle?5. What is the Marginal Rate of Substitution (MRS) between the two goods?
Note the budget constraint can be written as 2x + 2y = 4
6. Solve this budget constraint for y and substitute it into the utility function to obtain an expression for utility that depends on x only.7. Maximize this utility to obtain the optimal amount of x. (Take the derivative of this expression with respect to x, set the derivative equal to zero, solve for x)8, Find the optimal amount of y by using the result for x.9. How does this optimal consumption bundle compare to the one found graphically.
Explain how a change in investment can have big impact on GDp causing nationwide slump. Recall that investment is "small' relative to the whole economy.
Assume if the inflation rate is 5percent is this still acceptable. Provide quantitative justification for your answer.
In what ways do the offering MBA courses at other locations create producer and consumer borne value to both the university and the malls? What factors affect the ability of the university and malls to capture value?
In recent years, consumption spending by households has accounted for about 70% of the total spending (aggregate demand) in the U.S. economy.
Write down the relationship between savings, capital formation, and consumption.
Show the price and output that maximizes profit in this graph. Then use math to calculate the price and output that will maximize the firm's profit. Calculate your profits at this price and output level.
Use aggregate demand (AD) and aggregate supply (AS) model in which the short run aggregate supply curve slopes upwards to illustrate the equilibrium level of real GDP and prices if the economy is operating:
Illustrate equations for total income also marginal income (interm of Q). what will be the total revenue at price of $ 70? what will be marginal revenue.

Describe how a change in investment can have big impact on GDP causing a nationwide slump. Recall that investment is "small" relative to the entire economy.
Explain are there any present events in the news that you can directly link to concepts or theories covered so far.
if the table shows the demand faced by a monopoly company then what is that firms marginal revenues as it increases output from 100 units to 300 units.
