At 25C, burning 0.200 mol of H2(g) with 0.100 mol of O2(g) to produce H2O(l) in a bomb calorimeter raises the temperature of the calorimeter by 0.880C, When 0.100 mol of toluene(C7H8(l)) is burned in this calorimeter, the temperature is raised by 0.615C. The equation for the combustion reaction is

C7H8(l) + 9O2(g) --> 7CO2(g) + 4H2O(l)

Calculate delta E for the above reaction in kj per mol of toluene. Hint: use delta H formation (H2O(l))=-286 kj/mol to calculate delta E formation (H2O(l)) in kj/mol, then use the hydrogen combustion reaction to calculate the heat capacity of the calorimeter. This heat capacity can then be used to solve for the heat liberated in the above reaction.
