Assignment:

This assignment  provides students with the opportunity to showcase their in-depth knowledge in areas  of  community development  or  international humanitarian assistance  and development  by demonstrating their understanding of  the relationship between core theoretical concepts  and practical  realities.

Students will explain the concept of work integrated learning (WIL) and investigate the role and purpose of WIL in higher education based on their practice placement experience in their chosen field of practice.  The argumentation will address  benefits of WIL as well as challenges encountered in WIL. Students are expected to draw on academic theories and frameworks and reference to their personal placement experience where relevant.

The essay must contain a main thesis/argument and make use of a paragraph structure, providing clear sub-arguments that support the main thesis/argument.

Students are expected to research relevant academic theories and frameworks for WIL.

Students may draw upon their relevant placement experience (Done placement as Homelessness Support Worker at Ozanam House) as supporting evidence, which is recorded in their placement diaries. Examples of relevant experiences and observations may include:

• Client interactions
• Interaction with and support from agency supervisor
• Integration of classroom learning into fieldwork placement
• Key learnings about being a community/human-services related worker
• Future skill development

The fieldwork essay should include the following elements

• An argument/thesis statement that is apparent throughout the essay
• Definition of WIL and other relevant key terms and concepts
• Concise explanation and evidence of the role and purpose of WIL
• Critical analysis of the benefits and challenges of WIL
• Coherent structure (introduction, body paragraphs, conclusion) and logical flow of information
