Explains the components of branding. Creating a company's brand is an essential part of marketing. Brand refers to a company's identity and reputation, and branding helps to set a business apart from its competitors. The image and thoughts that come to mind when a company's name is mentioned is its brand. When someone mentions State Farm, what do you picture? Is it the logo, the color red, or the commercials with Jake from State Farm? What about Allstate? Do you envision the logo, the color blue, the slogan with the hands, or the "Mayhem" commercials? Those images that immediately come to mind refer to the company's brand and the branding strategy used to set it apart from competitors.

Watch the video, How Apple and Nike Have Branded Your Brain, and review Forbes: The World's Most Valuable Brands list. Choose one of the companies on the Forbes list and discuss the brand. Identify the company and include the following:

  • What is the branding strategy used by the company to create a valuable brand image that portrays quality to consumers? What sets the company apart so that consumers want to purchase from this company and not the competitor?
  • Consider the devotional, which discusses the importance of name and reputation. What does this company do to protect its name and its reputation? Explain if there has been a time when the brand name or reputation was tarnished or not favorable in the marketplace and what the company did to regain a positive.
