1. Write an expression for the change of total Gibbs energy, dG, involving the chemical potential of the liquid ?l , the gas inside the bubble ?g and the change in surface energy of the bubble, ?dA, where ? is the surface tension (constant) and A is the area of the surface. Use nl and ng for amounts in the gas and liquid phases. (Don't forget dT's and dP's.) 2. Assume the chemical potential of the liquid is slightly greater ?l= ?b + ?? than it would be at boiling ?b. This is due to slight superheating. What is the change in the chemical potential of the liquid ?? as a function of change in temperature assuming the entropy near the boiling point is constant?
