The Nissan ex boss Carlos Ghosn who escaped from the potential legal liabilities after being accused of personal financial misconduct, shocked the entire public. Mr. Ghosn escaped house arrest and flew out of Japan to Lebanon, a country that does not have an extradition treaty with Japan. As of early 2020, it did not appear that he would face any legal penalties. Mr. Ghosn was successful in improving the financial performance and market position of the company while he was in charge. Mr. Ghosn is already a multi-millionaire, and his pay level was significantly higher than CEOs of other Japanese corporations. Mr. Ghosn declared in a statement: "I have escaped injustice and political persecution."
