In acidic solution, the bromate ion can be used to react with a number of metal ions. One such reaction is

\rm \rm {BrO_3}^-{(aq)}+Sn^{2+}{(aq)}\rightarrow \rm Br^-{(aq)}+Sn^{4+}{(aq)}
