Provide your essay replies attachments to the midterm exam no later than 10 p.m., Sunday, 22 October 2017. Please remember, you must answer 5 of the 10 questions and each question is worth 60 points for a maximum score of 300 points. This is an open book, open internet, open anything test.......outside research, other than the text, is required to fully answer each question (a MLA works cited page and in text citations are required when using outside sources). Grammar, spelling and sentence/paragraph construction are extremely important to your grade. You need to be accurate, factually correct and provide enough information to properly answer each question. Each question requires at least 3-4 well written paragraphs in correct essay format (approx 500 words each) in order to completely address the question. I will post grades to the grade book within a week of receiving all tests. Lastly, there can be no extension of this submission deadline. There are no other assignments due this week so I am sure you can all complete this within the time frame given. I look forward to your responses.

5. Discuss the significance of the Iliad and the Odyssey. What were the major "lessons" of each?

6. Explain the difference between the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire. Discuss differences in the economy, government and law.

7. Compare and contrast one example of Greek architecture to one of Rome. List at least two similarities and two differences.

8. Discuss the meaning of the term "polis" and give examples from Greek history, specifically as it applies to the city states.

9. Discuss the meaning of the term, "Imperial Cult" and explain why it was vital to the continuity in Roman society.

10. Select and analyze any two paintings in your textbook in Book 1. Discuss the background of the artist and what the painting's message is to the population at the time.
