Business Research Part 1
Introduction
New Wave is an American telecommunications company that provides wireless services. It is a new wireless network operator in the United States and currently serves 150,000 customers as of September 2016. The Company also offers wireless voice, messaging, and broadband services. The company is headquartered in Seattle, Washington. One of the problems they have been having since opening in March of 2014 is expanding customer services.
Management wants to increase the number of services each customer is purchasing. New Wave will hire a team to gather data with the goal of determining if there is a relationship between customer's age and type of services they are buying. For example, younger customers may want to have messaging and data services, they care less for voice. But older customers may want voice and maybe messaging services. Older customers don't care for data services.
The New Wave Company stands to lose many of their current customers and any future customers if the business dilemma is not resolved. The cost of training employees and bringing high-quality customer service back to its loyal customers is significantly less than the cost of losing them and their referrals. New Wave Company cannot afford to sit in idol with its current level of customer service and expect to keep its customers for a long time.
For this research project, the qualitative dependent variable (DV) is cell phone services. The values used to delineate the unique categories for DV are Voice only, Data only, Voice and Data. The qualitative independent variable (IV) is customer's age range. The values used to delineate the unique categories for IV are "20s", "30s", "40s", "50s", "60s", "and 70s".
Based on the information provided, New Wave's research question for this study is:
RQ: Is there a relationship between customer's age range and cell phone services a customer buys?
Based on this research question, the hypotheses for the study were:
Ho: There is no relationship between the type of cell phone service a customer buys and customer's age.
HA: There is a relationship between the type of cell phone service a customer buys and customer's age.
Part 1: Sampling Design
Write a 350- to 700-word paper using the scenario and two variables your learning team developed for the Week 2 Business Research Project Part 1 assignment, in which the goal is to submit a random sampling plan in such detail that another researcher could replicate the method.
Discuss the following:
•Population and size
•The target population and brief reasoning
•Sampling element which may be conducted through any of the following:
o Data mining
o Survey (If a survey is chosen, create a 5-10 question document), or
o Observation
•The sample size
•Method of random sampling which may include:
o Simple
o Stratified
o Systematic
o Cluster
Calculate the sample size for the mean or sample or sample size for the proportion, using a 95% confidence level, estimated population standard deviation or estimate of the true population proportion, and a 5% margin of error. Place the calculation in the Appendix.
Discuss how validity and reliability will be achieved.
If applicable, explain how human subjects will be protected.
Part 2: Data Collection
Explain how the data will be physically collected.
Explain where data will be stored and how it will be protected.
Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines.
