Assignment:

Macro Theory and Triple Jeopardy

Last week, we looked at several macro theories that explain how social forces affect people on a large scale. The theories are located in Chapter of your Roger's text. The three theories we focused on were Conflict Theory, Functionalism and Interactionism. This week, we are going to dive into Chapter. This chapter brings to light the fact that older adults are some of the poorest persons in our society. One of the poorest subgroups is older women especially those in "triple Jeopardy" or "female ethnic minority elderly".

Thinking in macro terms, why do you believe society fails to help take care of the basic needs of those in "triple jeopardy"? Is society justified in shuffling goods and resources away from this group and towards younger people? How would the macro theories we discussed explain why this group is at such high risk? What can social workers do on a micro, mezzo or macro level to change society's perception about the need to care for this vulnerable population?
