Assignment

Annotated Bibliography

Your annotated bibliography should be a full bibliographic representation of all of the sources you will use in your research paper. You need to have found and evaluated all of your sources. The purpose of this assignment is to ensure that you have gathered and evaluated your sources so that you can use them in your paper.

1. Use an MLA formatted heading and layout. Please submit this assignment in Microsoft Word. If you do not have MS Word on your computer, you can download it for free through MSU, or you can write the assignment in Google Docs and go to file-->"download as"-->Microsoft Word.

2. Briefly describe your topic. It should have become more specific as you've done more research since you turned in your proposal.

3. Use MLA formatting (the Works Cited format) for the sources. This website can help you in formatting guidelines for MLA.

4. In your paper, you need to use 5 sources, including 3 scholarly sources.

To find scholarly sources, go to the MSU library page, click on "Find Articles & More" and then click on "full text" and "peer reviewed" to find academic articles on your topic.

You can also use articles that we have already read in the class if they are relevant to your narrowed topic. You still need to follow the assignment requirements and write each source in MLA format and follow the instructions below for the annotation part of the assignment.

You may complete an interview with a respondent who is relevant to your research topic in the place of one of your sources. In this case, you would have four sources and one interview. If you would like to do an interview, you need to explain who you will interview and include your interview questions in the Annotated Bibliography.

5. Write 3-4 sentences under each source, explaining its contents and how it will be useful to your paper. It is crucial that you have read at least part of each source to determine how it will be useful to your paper. Also, it is important that you avoid plagiarism. You need to describe the source in your own words, and if you do use a direct quote, you need to put quotation marks around it and use parenthetical citation to indicate the author and page number. Also, if you paraphrase source material, you need use parenthetical citation as well. Here is a resource from the same Purdue Online Writing Lab on in-text citation with MLA style.

Ghana Christianity on Homosexuality

The main topic that I chose for this research paper is on an extreme political and social issue that occurs all around the world, which is homosexuality. When researching and understanding the morals and values of African Christianity I recognized there are similarities as well as differences within Africa and the Western World on the topic of homosexuality. I was interested in doing African Christianity because I myself am a Christian and wanted to learn more about my religion but from a different cultural perspective to understand their different morals and values. I also was inspired in by the issue of homosexuality because I am apart of the LGBT community. I understand the difficulties and hardships that my community goes through in the Western World, but I never actually took the time to venture out and think about how this affects others around the world.

Essentially, I want to focus mainly on the effects of the LGBTQ community within Africa and the mindset of African practitioners when it comes to people in this community. To begin, I would start with explaining how African Christianity is practiced and their views on homosexuality. I would like to compare and contrast Christianity in the Western World and Africa when it comes to homosexuality. There are Christian groups in Ghana, for example, that are vocally anti-gay, and they are influenced by Christian organizations based in the US and other western countries. The different questions I want to ask are :

1. How is homosexuality viewed in Ghana Christianity?

2. Are people in the LGBTQ community accepted or condemned?

3. Does African Christianity try to convert gays? If so, what are their methods?
