Thomas Jefferson Snodgrass (Jeff1 found an unlabelled reagent bottle in his -80 oC freezer. The bottle contained a liquid. He found that the compound (compound I) quickiy evaporated when warmed to room temperature. 'H-NMR of the compound showed. only two peaks, one, a triplet, was at 0.92 ppm and integrated to 6 protons and a second at 1.08 ppm that *u, u"., [(. [' quintet and integrated to 4 protons. Jeff treated the sample with Brz and light followed by sodium t-butoxide and isolated a new compound (Compound II which was also a gas at room temperature). NMR of compound II showed a doublet at 1.53 ppm that integrated to 6 protons and a quartet at 5.01 ppm that integrated to 2 protons. Treatment of compound 2 with Or followed by dimethylsulfide and water produced a single compound (compound IID. An IR spectrum of compound III had moderate peaks at2996,2836,2736, and 11 14 cm'l and a strong peak at l727cm'r. Use the clues in the story to identiff and draw the structures of compounds I, II, and III. You can figure out the chemistry without the spectroscopy.
Suppose an ice cube weighing 44.7 g at a temperature of -4 degree celcius is placed in 550 grams of water at a temperature of 23 degrees celcius.
A cylinder containing a mixture of N2 and O2 is taken from the basement to the top of a 50-story building. Assuming that the temperature remains constant, which of the following properties of the gas change during the ascent
If the endpoint is surpassed in the back-titration with NaOH, will the reported amount of antacid in the sample be too high or too low?
Calculate the pH at the equivalence point in a 0.10 M acetic acid/0.10 M sodium hydroxide titration when 27.4 mL of NaOH was used in titration.
How many g or H2O are created with excess CO2 and 168 g of KOH from the following chemical reaction? CO2 + 2 KOH -----> K2CO3 + H2O
what will the concentration be after 9.00 minutes? Part B A zero-order reaction has a constant rate of 1.30×10^?4 M/s. If after 60.0 seconds the concentration has dropped to 8.00×10^?2 M, what was the initial concentration?
What experimental difficulty would you encounter if you had neglected to include a drying step before evaporation
Calculate the vapor pressure of water above a solution prepared by dissolving 26.9 g of glycerin (C3H8O3) in 183 g of water at 343 K. Vapor Pressure (torr) at 343 (or 70) is 233.7 torr
When air expands adiabatically (without gaining or losing heat), its pressure P and volume V are related by the equation PV1.4 = C, where C is a constant. Suppose that at a certain instant the volume is 600 cm3 and the pressure is 80 kPa and is de..
According to quantum mechanics, the energy levels for an particle with mass m (such as an electron) confined in a 1-dimensional box of length a is given by
The lead contained in a 0.2000 g sample is precipitated as PbCrO4. The precipitate is filtrated, washed and re-dissolved in acid to give lead ions and dichromate.
After comparing max absorbance to reference values, the manual states "make a table of the expected results and the deviation from the standard.
