When the economy is impacted then there is an effect in the labor force. Many organizations are experiencing a shortage of skilled labor. This is mainly due to many organizations having moved unskilled labor overseas, and automating other jobs. These changes have caused a surplus of unskilled labor and left these workers unemployed. Another issue in the labor force is the baby boomer generation staying in the work force much longer than previous generations. With baby booms keeping job positions, there are less position available for younger generations. I find this very interesting because it is something I am currently experiencing in the work force. I have hit a ceiling in my organization because the next rung up the ladder is dominated by baby boomers managers and have held their positions for ten or more years. The reason these position stay filled is because the employees in those positions have hit a ceiling as well, caused by workers of the same generation dominating the positions at the next level.

Do you think that the solution to this is to expand as a company so baby boomers begin to retire from the work force?
