A model that is helpful to motivate organizational training and learning is through the use of the Expectancy-Value-Cost Model of Motivation. The video in Topic 11.4 discusses how this model's framework may be used to predict learning success based on factors of the learner's motivation. Reflect on your own motivation for learning by sharing a skill you have wanted to learn or a skill that you want to improve. It can be something as simple as creating and maintaining a gym routine or learning how to use Microsoft Excel for your job role. Consider how you would weigh the expectancy and value of learning this new skill against the cost.

Share the skill. What were the main factors influencing expectancy, value, and cost? Does the expectancy and value outweigh the cost? Why or why not? What could you or others have done to increase the expectancy or value of the situation? How could the cost be lowered?
