Ethics Training

In this week’s reading on WSJ, I came across this great article relating to Chapter 6: Ethics and Compliance Programs: Moving from “Good enough” to “Great”. Recently, the U.S. federal sentencing guidelines have called for organizations to further develop their compliance programs for employees. The OECD organization is really trying to push this on businesses to excel in this ethical dilemma being faced. Because of the unimaginable growth of social media technology and more companies relying on user data, this has now created and opened a very broad motion of ethical dilemmas that did not exist years ago. Companies are now being faced with a whole new era of compliance rules and regulations they must analyze, distinguish and imply to their employees. The OECD wants companies to realize that ‘good enough’ is not enough, companies should aim for a great and strong compliance program. A few number of factors to take into consideration for higher performing compliance programs include: Toning at the top, corporate culture emphasis, testing and monitoring employees, reinforcing and making sure employees are always appropriately following ethical rules remotely. Having the compliance officer incorporating routinely meetings to remind and reinforce compliance rules every so often is also key.
