Social workers have an ethical responsibility to be culturally competent when serving diverse groups, including organizations. Inorganizations, social workers can encounter many different groups that may have differing perspectives on how to improve an organization's culture. In your opinion, what are some positive cultural influences that can exist within organizations? Which cultural factors might pose risks to an organization or alarm a social worker who is serving an organization? In organizations, each role has specific responsibilities that involve actions that must be taken for an individual to fulfill their duties. This gives individuals of any role in an organization the ability to affect the organization's culture. A concept in philosophy called negative responsibility is used to describe how individuals are accountable for consequences related to actions that they should have taken but didn't. This concept can also be applied to organizations in the perspective of a social worker. As a social worker, how might you explain the effect of negative responsibility on organizational culture, and how might you address it?
