The Legal. Ethical, and Sustainable Business Management Decision You are the production manager for a small manufacturing firm. One product being made involves the use of toxic chemicals. A supervisor reports to you that a small amount of toxic fames is leaking into your employees workspace. Upon investigation, you discover that it will cost in excess of $3 million to repair the leak. This dollar figure represents an amount of money that your firm does not have readily available. Further, you discover that no employee has complained of (or possibly even noticed) the leak. What should you do? Is there any criminal liability for hiding the leak? Assume there was no criminal liability, would it be ethical to continue to hide the leak? Do you have any responsibility to all the employees that lose their job when the firm is shut down?
