Q. A 2.5kg mass is attached to a spring and placed on the horizontal, smooth surface. A horizontal force of 18.4 N is necessary to hold the mass at rest while it is pulled 0.210 m from its equilibrium position (the origin of the x axis). The mass is now released from rest with an initial displacement of xi = 0.210 m and it subsequently undergoes simple harmonic oscillations. a) Estimate the frequency of the oscillations. b) Estimate the highest speed of the mass. c) Estimate the highest acceleration of the mass. d) Estimate the total energy of the oscillating system. e) Estimate the speed while the displacement equals one third of the highest value. f) Estimate the acceleration while the displacement equals one third of the highest value.
