Crude oil is transported from tank farm in Yanbu to the Power plant of the Electric Company in Rabig by ships. Investigate the feasibiliy of building a pipeline system complete pumping system to transport crude oil from a tank farm in Yanbu to the power plant of the Electric Company in Rabig. Estimate the cost of the pipeline and compare it with the cost of the ships. Also estimate the volume of the crude oil to be transported.
Take the follwoing in consuderation when designing the pipeline with complete pumping system;
a) Choosing the right equipment and materials at the right cost such as size, thickness, and material grade of the pipe.
b) In calculating the capital cost, consider the major capital components of a pipeline system which consist of
1) Pipe
2) Pump stations.
3) Storage tanks.
4) Valves and fittings.
5) Meter stations.
c) Estimate the annual operating and maintenance costs.
d) Investigate the technical and economic feasibility of a new pipeline.
e) In designing a pipeline. you need to consider the followings
1) Project costing and planning
2) Analysis. sizing and selection of complete pumping systems.
3) Complete engineered design & calculation of pumping solutions (including layout)
4) Complete engineered design and calculation of pipeline and valves.
5) Pipeline routing. construction method (i.e.. aboveground or buried) and their impact on initial capital. operation. and maintenance expense.
6) Pipeline area classification and material selection.
7) The maximum allowable operating pressure. the available inlet pressure and the minimum required delivery pressure.
