Activity 1:
In this activity, you will conduct an online research and obtain the project completion report of a recently completed construction project. Contact your trainer/assessor who is delivering the unit if you are unable to obtain the exemplary report, they should be able to provide a recent example suitable for this activity.
Your trainer / assessor may provide you access to the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and drawings of typical examples of a recently completed project. They may also provide you access to the workplace intranet - or allow you internet access to carry out your own research OR you may access the internet independently using your own resources.
Based on the given project, read through the site communication procedures that they used to communicate valuable information to various stakeholders and relevant personnel.
Activity 2:
This activity is in continuation to activity 1.
For the same project:
• Check the first-aid facilities deployed on-site for that project and check its compliance in accordance with relevant OHS, welfare and risk management legislation and regulations.
• Check the plant and equipment usage policy that required certified operators and check if they comply with the risk management procedures under their OHS plan.
If you think that the points discussed above do not comply with the regulations, provide recommendation.
Or
If they comply with the legislations and regulations, document lessons learned.
Activity 3:
Research the safety policy / procedures at your organisation.
Draft the procedures for:
• requirements for on-site first aid facilities
• plant and equipment usage that requires certified operators
• hazard management procedures including precautionary measures
• how responsibilities for safe handling of material will be addressed
• construction safety including identifying key personnel
• a safety induction in the event of dangerous incidents, injuries and accidents.
• safety reporting processes and documentation
• establishing equipment hire and maintenance
Ensure all procedures are in accordance with OHS, welfare, risk management and legislative requirements.
Record your findings in written format in the space provided below.
Activity 4:
At the ATR or your workplace worksite, check:
a. What process do they use for placing orders for materials to ensure the timely and cost-effective supply of materials and installation of equipment is achieved?
b. Which procedures they use for hiring and carrying out maintenance of plant and equipment?
Activity 5:
In this activity, you will engage in discussion with the trainer/assessor on site and discuss with him/her the most effective ways to manage the following:
• On -site operations to implement and maintain a safe and cost-effective work environment
• Subcontractor operations to ensure their compliance with company obligations.
• Systems to deal with problems and delays affecting performance.
• Revisions made to project schedules when required.
Activity 6:
In this activity, you will list down the basic requirements for quality management system to provide a continuous improvement environment in which safety procedures are monitored continuously.
Activity 7:
At ATR or your workplace work site -
• Identify the risks associated with a construction project;
• Analyse the potential impact of each risk, whether significant or not;
• Identify methods for reducing or offsetting risks in so far as practicable;
