The environment created by a company is a huge part of employee satisfaction, productivity and commitment. For an employee to come into an environment daily that they do not feel they can thrive in can diminish their behavior in many ways. This can affect their job satisfaction tremendously if they do not feel valued in their work. The value can come in many ways from leadership, organizational values and / or coworkers. An employee that is missing value can feel they do not need to strive to accomplish more than their minimum requirement which means they don't feel the need to grow with that organization. They may not be as involved with other coworkers or group tasks. By holding back in these settings, one's opinions and input that aren't voiced will be missed that could be a huge asset for that given task. If this is a present theme for an employee, if they are under the supervision of a conscious leader, it's up to that leader to dig more. The leader needs to take initiative and ask the employee what is causing the negative behavior to find out if anything can be done to fix it.
