White is well known for her research on the effects of exercise on bone density. In 2006, she was awarded a 5-year research grant from NIH to study bone density. Grade assistant Cook begins t work under Professor White's mentorship in 2008 and is immediately assigned the responsibility of running one of the experiments on bone density that is outlined in the grant proposal. Professor White can never be found in the laboratory for data collection, but she regularly holds lab meetings during which she discusses progress on data collection with Cook. After completing data collection, Cook organizes and presents data to Professor White, who is pleased with the data. Professor White then assigns Cook the task of drafting a manuscript based on the data. After several iterations, both are pleased with the final product and conclude the manuscript is ready for submission. Unfortunately, they have no conversations about authorship.
