Serum cholesterol levels were taken from a population of 10,000 college students. The results were normally distributed. Males had a mean of 195 and a standard deviation of 10. Females had a mean of 185 and a standard deviation of 12. Concern was expressed by the health educators that students with serum cholesterol levels above 200 might be at an increased risk of heart disease.
