An insulated system contains two solid blocks in contact with each other; one hot and the other cold. After heat transfer over some time, thermal equilibrium is established in the container. The first law requires that the amount of energy lost by the hot block equal the amount of energy gained by the cold block. Does the second law require that the decrease in entropy of the hot block equal the increase in entropy of the cold one? Explain.
