Case: A lesser-known result of economic globalization is the relentless drive to secure valuable commodities from lands controlled by native peoples. Indigenous groups throughout the developing world are reversing centuries of political exclusion and are asserting their rights to protect their lands, cultures, and livelihoods.? However, these political movements frequently still encounter opposition from entrenched business interests and establishment politics. 

Question 1) Do you think that the values and economic needs of modern society can be reconciled with the values and cultural perspective of Indigenous groups? Why or why not? How could this be accomplished? 

Question 2) These conflicts seem like 'David and Goliath' struggles. What effective techniques and tactics are available to Indigenous peoples to level the playing field? 

Question 3) The drive for resources is fueled by global consumer demand (companies wouldn't illegally cut tropical hardwood if there was no demand for high-end flooring, for instance). What can you do as a consumer to curb the worst of these practices?
