Instructions:

This week you will be discussing perhaps the most crucial part of your research. Recall your initial predictions of what you expected to find before you began your research. Now, using what you learned this week about Hypothesis Testing, you will formally test your prediction with your research.

The type of test should be identified and an explanation of why this type of test was chosen. Your project should include a check to make sure that it meets the assumptions of the particular test. This may include a graph. The hypothesis should be stated in words and symbols. The formula should be written with symbols and then with the substitution of the appropriate numbers. State the level of significance!

This was the first assignment, my initial prediction of what I expected to find before I began the research:

1. What are you researching?

The variable of interest is mean number of accident at an intersection. We can study this only when we collect the data of accidents at the intersection.

Generally these kind of problems are studied in the poison distribution.

2. How are you going to gather the data for this project?

There are two ways of collecting data.

  • Stand on the intersection daily from morning to evening and note the number of accidents.
  • Whenever any accident occurs at the intersection the first information is given in the nearest police station. so we will go to the nearby police station and collect the data of accidents from the police records.

3. What do you think the mean will be once you gather the data.

Due to non availability of data we cannot comment on any figure. But we can say that if it is a busy intersection, then number of vehicles will be more people will drive slowly and there will be less number of accidents. So mean will be low

If the intersection is not busy then people will drive fast and there are likely to be more accidents at such intersection. So mean will be high.
