Question:
There are two very important questions to consider when discussing decolonization, the Rwandan Genocide, and the successful rebuilding of Rwanda after 1994. Therefore, instead of asking one question, you can choose to respond to ONE of the two questions listed below.
In a response that is at least 250 words long and addresses our readings, answer one of the two questions below:
(1) How much of a role did decolonization play in contributing to the Rwandan Genocide?
(2) Evaluate the efforts of Rwanda after 1994 in unifying the country and attempting to prevent violent tensions from happening again. Were these efforts necessary to create peace and calm in a small nation (the size of the state of Maryland) recovering from a brutally violent genocide? Or have aspects of these initiatives gone too far in terms of curbing civil liberties and enabling governmental overreach?
