Question: All humans have biases. This fact has been well-documented in many studies (see here for more details). Because of this fact, it is hard--and perhaps inpossible--for any human to act in a purely objective and neutral way. There is always a chance that we are wrong due do our conscious or unconscious biases.

Generally, people in society refers to these facts to justify the beliefs they already hold. It is common to say that "If everyone is biased, then my opponents are biased too. This means their arguments against my beliefs are not worth considering." People rarely refer to these facts to argue that they may need to change their beliefs.

For this journal entry, think about 1-2 beliefs you hold that may not be justified (i.e., you don't have strong evidence proving them). Explain those beliefs in a few sentences. Then, in several more sentences, discuss what evidence you would need to change your mind. (For example, if I were a strong believer in the right to bear arms, the evidence I might need to change my mind is clear evidence that stricter gun control laws would reduce mass shootings.) Finally, explain where you might be able to find the evidence you need to change your mind (e.g., studies of gun laws and mass shootings in multiple countries around the world, which could be found by doing a search for "gun control" and "mass shooting" on the SHSU Library's website).
