This final GEA related writing assignment contains 4 questions, some with multiple parts. Answer each question thoughtfully, clearly, completely, and in good faith .

• Each question includes an approximate length.

o Although your response may be longer, the length included is an approximation for how long your answer will be if you answer the question sufficiently.

o Answers that are very short may not convey thought fulness and may be unclear or incomplete.

o Answers can be complete and concise, or complete and verbose, which is why many questions include a range.

• Each question asks you to reflect on engineering, communication, and/or ethics in some way, and are directly related to your thoughts, experiences, and observations. In this way, there are no right or wrong answers, just answers that are thoughtful, clear, complete, and offered in good faith.

• All questions will be graded as sufficient/insufficient. Each question that appears to have been answered in good faith, thoughtfully, clearly, and completely, will earn a mark of "sufficient." Question 1: Your thoughts and hypothetical impacts.

a. Discuss your thoughts on the microplastics problem and how it is being addressed globally, nationally, and locally. (1 paragraph)

b. Hypothetically, what kind of impact(s) do you hope your team's proposed solution would make on the Tampa Bay area? On the world? (1 paragraph)

c. What specific economic impacts do you believe your team's proposed solution would have on the Tampa Bay area? On the world? (1 paragraph)

Question 2: Ethical and communication-related responsibilities.

a. What are your ethical responsibilities as an engineer? (1 to 2 paragraphs)

b. What are your communication responsibilities as an engineer? (2 to 3 paragraphs) Be sure to include the following as part of your response:

• Who must you communicate with? Why?

• What kinds of information are you responsible for communicating? How? Why?

• What ethical considerations do you face with each audience and each type of information?

Question 3: COVID-19 and Communication

a. COVID-19 and the global pandemic has disrupted lives and societies throughout the world. Discuss 1 specific local (be sure to define what "local" is to you) and 1 specific global communication issue or problem you have noticed related to COVID-19 and/or the pandemic, and provide links or a screenshot that illustrates the issues/problems (e.g., links to a news articles, videos, etc., or screenshots of headlines, graphs, etc. that illustrates the issues/problems you are pointing to). Be sure to include the following as part of your response:

• Is the communication ethical? Why or why not?

• What are/have been/might be the consequences of the issue/problem?

Question 4: The Future

a. At the completion of your undergraduate studies, you will be inducted into a field that prides itself on high moral standards and service toward the pubic good. This includes ethical communication.

• How have your experiences this semester impacted your understanding about what "communication" means and how it relates to and impacts your role as an engineer? (~2-4 paragraphs)

o Explore this at the various levels you have been asked to communicate at or consider throughout the semester, including your own communication style and preferences.

o Include considerations for cultural and interpersonal differences in communication styles, preferences, and expectations.

o Be sure to specifically address ethics, and Include your experiences/thoughts from Engineering Economics as well as the COVID-19 related issues you discussed in Question 3.
