Question: This Act was an amendment to ERISA. It was passed to protect employees who lost their jobs or changed jobs, from losing their health insurance too. It requires that group insurance coverage be offered to employees and their dependents on a self-pay basis (employee has to pay the cost) for set periods of time (ranging up to 36 months maximum, depending on the "qualifying event," i.e., the reason for accessing the act).
