Assignment:

The Cost of Expansion

Read/review the following resources for this activity:

Textbook:

Title: Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association

For the initial post, pick two (2) of the following settlements:

  • Southern colonies
  • Chesapeake colonies
  • Middle colonies
  • New England colonies

Then, address the following for your selections:

  • Compare and contrast the settlement patterns.
  • What forces and ideas shaped their origin?
  • Examine the influence of religion on those settlements (e.g., Puritanism, Quakers, and the Anglican Church).

In this thread, we are going to look at the major regions of colonial America, New England, the mid-Atlantic, the Chesapeake, and the South. Even though many of the colonists that traveled to these regions came from the same country, England, the regions developed unique cultural identities. There are many factors that account for the unique development of these colonies; these include climate, resources, reasons for immigration, and relationships between the natives and the colonists.

In this discussion, consider the differences between the various colonial regions and the people living in those regions. You can begin by reviewing the prompt above and crafting your initial post.

As with all discussions, make sure your initial post draws on course resources such as the textbook, in addition to an outside source.
