Repeat Problem P10.9, but use the numerals "1", "2" and "4", instead of the letters "T", "G" and "F". Test the trained network on each reference pattern and on noisy patterns. Discuss the sensitivity of the network. (Use the Neural Network Design Demonstration Linear Pattern Classification (nnd10lc).)
Problem P10.9
Repeat the work of Widrow and Hoff on a pattern recognition problem from their classic 1960 paper [WiHo60]. They wanted to design a recognition system that would classify the six patterns shown in Figure P10.11.
These patterns represent the letters T, G and F, in an original form on the top and in a shifted form on the bottom. The targets for these letters (in their original and shifted forms) are +60, 0 and -60, respectively. (The values of 60, 0 and -60 were nice for use on the face of a meter that Widrow and Hoff used to display their network output.) The objective is to train a network so that it will classify the six patterns into the appropriate T, G or F groups.
A scientist plans to build a water barometer. When the atmospheric pressure is 990 mb abs and the water temperature is 70 degrees Celsius, what would you expect the barometer reading (water rise) to be?

The Earth's surface creates a boundary layer in the atmosphere. The velocity profile near the surface can be expressed as a power law, u = a * y n, where the constants a and n depend on the roughness of the surface.
Why do the X components of the reaction forces need to be considered when resolving the moment about point A

A hydraulic jump occurs at the entrance of this channel, with a downstream depth equal to the uniform flow depth. What is the upstream depth, y1, of the hydraulic jump?
The left-hand span is 16 ft and the right-hand span is 20 ft. The beam supports a uniform load of 900 plf, which includes its own weight, over the entire 36 ft and also a concentrated load of 10,000 lb applied at a point that is 5 ft from the left..
