Introduction
Carver State University Hospital, part of Carver State University, is located in a midwestern community known as Campustown. The hospital's charter lists three primary objectives:
1. Provide the best possible patient care;
2. Conduct biomedical research;
3. Train and educate doctors, nurses, and medical support personnel.
Most of the hospital buildings are at least twenty-five years old, with some in need of refurbishing. Teaching and research facilities are less than optimum and the library collection is lean. Nevertheless, the hospital has established a respectable reputation in the mid-range of teaching hospitals.
The chief operating officer of Carver State University Hospital also serves as the hospital administrator. She is advised by a management committee composed of the following individuals, all well recognized in their fields:
1. Associate Director, Patient Care
2. Assistant Director, Research
3. Assistant Director, Training and Education
The hospital administrator usually determines the use of grants and bequests to the hospital following consultation with individual members of the Senior Advisory Board.
