Question: In any of the multiple comparison techniques (Tukey Kramer, LSD), the estimate of the within-sample variance uses data from the entire experiment. However, if one were to do a two-sample t-test to determine if there were a difference between any two means, the estimate of the population variances would only include data from the two specific samples under consideration. Explain this seeming discrepancy.
