ASSIGNMENT: JOB RESEARCH

Assignment Directions:

1. Paper: Should be approximately 3-4 pages in length, or approximately two pages per job opening. Students are welcome to write more than 3-4 pages if necessary.

a. Please use either Times New Roman font in 12 point or something similar.

b. Please include the actual 15 questions below in your paper.

c. The paper should be in APA 6th edition format. That means it should be double spaced.

2. Presentation: Minimum 2-minute presentation (about 1 minute per researched job opening) with narration posted to VoiceThread

Students will research and inform the rest of the class about two current job openings in sport organizations. You should choose jobs in two different fields within the sport industry and these positions should be from two different types of sport organizations.  to locate two new job openings.

You will be responsible for writing a paper as well as creating a presentation (which will be posted to VoiceThread) summarizing what you learned about these jobs. Your classmates will be able to view the VoiceThread posts so they can also learn about the openings you have researched.

In your paper, please include answers to all of the questions listed below, in list format (as opposed to paragraph format). Providing answers to the questions in list format allows me to grade the assignment much faster since I can easily see if every question was addressed. The amount you write per question may vary.

Some answers may only require you to write a few sentences while others may require several paragraphs or more. Also, please provide a brief introduction for each of the two job opening you select.

This information can come from details in the position announcement. For example, you could provide the name of the organization, location, job title, when the job begins, etc.

In your VoiceThread presentation, discuss the most important aspects of each job. Remember, you will want to explain these jobs in a way that will give someone an understanding of what the position entails assuming they have no prior knowledge of the sport industry, company, or the specific jobs you have chosen.

You should address the following questions for EACH JOB OPPORTUNITY in your paper:

1. Where did you find the job opening?

2. How many jobs are out there are similar to the one you found?

3. What other types of organizations have job opportunities such as this?

4. What is the salary range for a job of this type?

5. What are the requirements & duties of the job?

6. How many years' experience is needed?

7. What level of education is desired?

8. What kind of background/experience would help in a position such as this? Why?

9. What type of person would be a good fit for this position? Why?

10. Would you consider the job an entry-level position, a leadership role, etc.? Why?

11. How long has the organization been in business?

12. What is its mission?

13. How many employees does the organization have? Is it small? Large?

14. Are the job qualifications, duties etc. consistent with other jobs similar to this one in the sport industry? What are the differences (if any)? Why are there differences?

15. Finally, be sure to state if this current opening would be a good fit for you and explain why or why not.
